UPGRADING

MyAvatars is getting better, but to upgrade from 0.1 version you have to follow these steps:

  • Disable older versions
  • Delete the plugin from your server (take a copy on your PC)
  • Upload the MyAvatars folder, without renaming it to your WordPress plugin folder
  • Activate the plugin in your panel

If you have already installed version 0.2 you can just overwrite the folder named MyAvatars in your plugins folder.

INSTALLATION

  1. Download the file myavatars.zip, extract & copy it in your plugin directory preserving the folder name
  2. Activate the plugin in your plugin page

THEME INTEGRATION

Paste the code given inside the comment's loop (just after the "foreach ($comments as $comment) :" instruction) in your comments.php file. You can style the code for a better integration using the dedicated CSS in the plugin folder.

Call the function MyAvatars with a true for Gravatar support. E.g. MyAvatars(true);

Leave blank for default settings

EXAMPLE

if(function_exists("MyAvatars"))
MyAvatars();

myavatars.gif

CONFIGURATION

From version 0.2 MyAvatars has some settings you can change. You can change settings by editing the php file in the plugin folder. Comments will help you during configuration.

  29. MyAvatars 0.2 Napolux ha detto:

    @Timendum
    Se blocchi i cookie penso non ti funzioni neanche la barra a lato di MyBlogLog.

    L’email la vedi se non hai compilato il campo URL lasciando il commento, cosa davvero improbabile…

  30. MyAvatars 0.2 timendum ha detto:

    Come improbabile? Poi “poveretti” che non abbiamo un blog dobbiamo ucciderci?

    In effetti non funziona neanche la barra a fianco… che fastidio, non capisco perché si sia obbligati ad utilizzare i cookie!

    I’ve implemented the code on my blog but I have 2 questions:

    I - My blog has some old comments where users didn’t give an email address. See http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2006/05/31/889/comment-page-1/#comments for an example. how do i fix the formatting for those avatars?

    II - How do I change the code so that if an avatar is clicked on, it opens up in a new window?

    Did you put this code in the comment’s loop?

    if(function_exists(”MyAvatars”))
    MyAvatars();

    @Everton Blair
    1. Really strange. I wonder you can set to “” email for that comments…

    2. It opens in new windows… In Firefox 2.0 opens in a new tab…

    If you still have problems contact me!

  44. MyAvatars 0.2 Joshua P.G. Lane ha detto:

    Think so. Have two php files related to comments:

    wp-commentsrss2.php

    Could not find the code you referenced as the preface: foreach ($comments as $comment) :” instruction, except in the wp-commentsrss2.php file.

    Is that where the comments loop would be found for me?

  45. MyAvatars 0.2 Joshua P.G. Lane ha detto:

    Within the wp-commentsrss2.php file, I entered the code as follows:

    // this line is WordPress’ motor, do not delete it.

    if(function_exists(”MyAvatars”))

    @Andrea Micheloni
    Mah, ultimamente Gravatar funziona e non funziona… Diciamo che sono più le volte che non va, personalmente, quelle poche volte che funziona, mi rallenta di molto il blog.

    Nessuno vieta di alternare i due plugin, basta semplicemente attivarli o disattivarli selettivamente. :)

    Hi there. Your plugin was recommended to me, and looks like it will be fantastic when I can get it to work. I am hoping you can help. I’ve placed the code EXACTLY as you instruct in my comments.php file, below the comment_text() line. Nothing happens. Try it anywhere else, my comments don’t appear.

    I am using a Hemingway theme mod. The code in my comments.php is different to yours only in that there are some div containers - div class=”content” above if ($comment->comment_approved == ‘0′)

    and that closes after the comment_text() line (where I then put your code).

    Any ideas on what I can try? Many thanks!

But the one I am using at the moment is MyAvatars created my an Italian developer named Napolux. So if you are a wordpress user you might want to check out this plugin. [...]

  79. MyAvatars 0.2 Andy ha detto:

    Right, fixed the problem. And I have a security concern…

    I did not use the function call. I just used MyAvatars(); enclosed. But I then had to comment out the insecure and somewhat dubious functionality of the email addresses of non-MyBlogLog users being visible.

    Now my copy of the plugin just takes non-users to the registration site and they have to fill in their email etc themselves.

    You really should remove that ‘functionality’ as it’s a licence for spamming email harvesters. Otherwise, looks fantastic. Thank you!

    It would be nice to have the ability to increase the size of the images in a future release. But yeah - well done!
